Communities Unite to Install Car Seats

Emergency workers from nearly two-dozen Massachusetts emergency service departments will be installing car seats Wednesday December 11 at the Dracut Fire Department on Pleasant St from 10AM to 1PM. Workers installing the seats are certified Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Technicians. CPS technicians are certified through the American Automobile Association (AAA) and follow National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) guidelines.

Parents should drive their children to the rear of the firehouse with their safety seats. Technicians to be in attendance are from Dracut Fire, Lowell Police, Methuen Police, Lawrence General Hospital Nurses, Bedford Fire and Police, N. Andover Fire, Westford Police and Fire, Mass State Police, Burlington Police, Marblehead Police, Danvers Fire, Littleton Police, Boxborough Police, and Needham Police. Technicians from many other communities are expected. Last minute confirmations are common due to the hectic schedules of emergency workers.

The CPS technicians volunteer to assist in each other’s communities from time to time. They will be rewarded in Dracut with breakfast and lunch from Good Olde Yum Yum and Lenzi’s catering. The Dracut Firefighter’s Union and the Governor’s Highway Safety Bureau are also sponsoring the checkpoint.

Everyone with a child weighing less than 80 lbs is encouraged to bring their child’s car seat for correct installation. An estimated 95% of car seats in Massachusetts are installed wrong
