Dracut Fire Department Hosts Car Seat Checkpoint

The Dracut Fire Department is hosting a car seat checkpoint on Wednesday December 11. The checkpoint will be held in the new fire headquarters at 488 Pleasant St from 10AM to 1PM. Parents can enter the firehouse from the Spring Park Ave entrance where they will be directed into one of the large fire apparatus bays. Once inside certified technicians will ensure parents are using the right seat for their child and vehicle. Then the child’s seat will be properly installed. In Massachusetts 95% of all car seats are installed wrong by unknowing parents and caregivers.

A recent Grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Bureau largely makes this checkpoint possible. Without additional local help from the Dracut Firefighter’s Union Local 2586, Good Olde Yum Yum, and Lenzi’s Catering volunteer technicians would have little support. Child Passenger Safety Technicians from numerous Massachusetts fire and police departments will serve at the checkpoint of their own accord.

Children weighing less than 80 lbs need to be properly restrained in a child safety seat. Fines for noncompliance with state law will NOT be administered at the checkpoint.
